On November 23rd Africa Fashion Guide Director and Founder Jacqueline Shaw was invited by MADE-BY to attend an all party parliamentary group session. This event was the APPG for Ethics and Sustainability in Fashion at the House of Lords in London and which looked at one in a series of emerging developments and topics in the fashion sector and discussed the theme:
Change the Law: Emergent Developments in the Fashion Industry
It was the 2nd meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Ethics & Sustainability in Fashion convened by Baroness Lola Young of Hornsey and hoped to raise more awareness in Parliament for new policies to be adopted and for change to be made in this sector.
This meeting explored how UK fashion companies were impacted by two key developments: legislation within Europe on sustainability reporting and the emergence of new industry groups, like the Sustainable Apparel Coalition. This focused on fashion from design to sourcing and included how the UK fashion industry could approach reporting. The area of labour and human rights was also an issue on the agenda.
