The Designer Boutique Show is a unique trade that started in 2008 and is a show which hosts South African art, design, and craft driven fashion brands perfectly suited to the boutique and lifestyle market. The next event which will showcase some of the best South African designer labels and brands on 11 & 12 October and help all to make valuable business connections.
On speaking about the event the founder, Julia Schaffer, says:
“The concept for The Designer Boutique Show grew from my experiences wholesaling my own range. I realised that the retailers wanted to buy innovative South African fashion brands but we all needed a system.”
When it started in 2008 they had 10 exhibitors just a few buyers but the last few years showcasing has seen this event grow in size to over 50 exhibitors. The overall aim of The Designer Boutique Show is to create an opportunity and a platform for promotion of independent labels and thus also the chance for communication between them, retailers and other industry professionals.
With designers such as Johannesburg-based fashion designer Suzaan Heyns, Bendiga House of Design, Cape Town based label Nucleus ran by Nicole Rasmussen, Kate Jordan and more it is no wonder THE SHOW has grown to receive more than 120 visitors a year.
Nicole Rasmussen of Nucleus and Body says:
I’ve been with the show since it’s inception. In that time my turnover has increased three-fold. It takes effort and persistence on your part, it doesn’t happen in one show.
The rewards however are great, not only do you increase your business and get your brand out there, but you liaise with other designers and get tips on how to improve your business and what pitfalls to avoid.
